Quickie Post - Question for My Male Readers

I'm just curious.

When being complimented by males over the past few years, they have referred to me as "sexy." More than one man has used this same word.

My question is, what is the distinction between "sexy" and "hot?" I can't think of a time I've ever even used the word "sexy," except to describe a singer's voice. (yes, voice. shutty.)

So okay, male readers. It's time for you to sack up and leave an answer in the comments. I know there are more of you than Dr. Kiwi and Runolfr.

Well, it's all subjective, of course, but to my mind, "hot" is bestowed purely for physical appearance, while "sexy" is a broader category that encompasses personality, brains, and behavior in addition to physical beauty.

Hmm. I tend to concur with Lord Runolfr, although the following translation might help you.

If I were to say "N you are hot", what I mean is "I would love to xxxx you, and I know that I don't have a snowball's chance in hell".

If I were to say "N you are sexy", what I mean is "I would love to xxxx you, and I know that I don't have a snowball's chance in hell, but if I encompass your personality, brains and behaviour, then I could be in, if you were feeling in a charitable mood".

Clearer now?

By the way. You are hot and sexy.

Thank you, Dr. Kiwi. I really don't see myself as either sexy or hot; the guys who say that are usually drunk. Are you drunk? :-)

Thanks to the both of you for your response - I knew I could count on at least two responses. Now that you explain it that way, I can see the distinction; I would refer to Aphrodite as sexy, because I read her blog and I know that she has a brilliant mind and a very sexy personality, as well as stunning physical beauty. If I had only seen her photo and didn't know her, I'd probably call her hot.

Yeah. I get it.

I agree with the distinction. And I have to say, sexy is way better than hot. A hot woman could be dumb as a box of hammers (no offense to my hammer friends) and that is not sexy. At least not for brainy guys like me.

I think you have the idea, N. You can advance from "hot" to "sexy" if you're beauty is more than skin deep.

LOL. IIRC I saw a photo of you on one of your avatar's. Looked fine to me. But then I'm just a red blooded male. What would I know about attractive women?

Aphrodite does come across as a very sexy woman. I suspect that she is much more than an internet femme fatale.

The opinions here all mimic my own.

Sexiness is deeper. More encompassing, more thought provoking. Hot is fleeting and fickle. And boring after the initial rush.

You're sexy, N. Deeply sexy and fascinating. I'd love to talk to you. You remind me of my best friend growing up...we'd have long deep interesting conversations after jumping on a trampoline for hours. We'd lay on the tramp, exhausted, looking up at the stars and discuss life, time, death, the universe. Then we'd bike home being pelted by mosquitoes.

Perhaps with you, though, we'd have ended up making out on that black mat, experimenting with each other's sexuality. ;)
